A Second Chance Starts with a
Healthy Heart

When Southern Paws opened in 2014, we quickly recognized one of the most urgent challenges facing our southern partner shelters: an overwhelming number of dogs testing positive for heartworm.

 

Heartworm disease remains an epidemic in many southern states, and the financial burden of treatment makes it nearly impossible for shelters to provide care for every dog in need. Treatment costs can range from $200 to $800 per dog, depending on the severity of the infection.

To address this critical need, we created the Heal Our Hearts Sponsorship Program. This program empowers individuals, families, coworkers, and friends in our community to come together and sponsor a dog’s heartworm treatment. Supporters can choose a dog in need and fundraise collectively to give that pup a second chance at life.

 

The impact has been extraordinary. In 2018 alone, the Heal Our Hearts Sponsorship Program raised more than $10,000 and funded treatment for 36 dogs. Since the program began, we have helped over 100 dogs receive life-saving heartworm treatment.
